Notice for Parents & Carers – 23rd June 2026

Notice for Parents and Carers from Head of Education (this has also been sent out by email).

Following our communication yesterday regarding the current hot weather, we wanted to provide a further update. I am writing to inform you that due to the Red weather warning for extreme heat in Dorset and forecast temperatures to reach 36’C tomorrow afternoon we have made the difficult decision to implement a partial closure of EMA on Wednesday 24th June 2026 and Thursday 25th June 2026 with EMA closing to students at 12.30pm on both days.

This has been a very challenging decision to make and not one that we have taken lightly. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our priority. The partial closure in the afternoons will help to reduce exposure to the highest temperatures which are expected to occur after lunch time.

Transport

Taxis – Students who use local authority funded transport can continue to use their taxis in the morning of Wednesday and Thursday, however transport have advised they will not change pick up times therefore if your student does attend it is the parent/carers responsibility to arrange collection from EMA at 12.30pm. Therefore if you are unable to collect from EMA at 12.30pm on Wednesday or Thursday then please do not send them in.

Train – We will not be providing a morning and afternoon collection at Moreton train station so parent/carers will need to arrange alternative transport for their child/young person to and from EMA.

For students who do attend, please ensure they:
• Bring a refillable water bottle
• Wear suitable, lightweight clothing (students working in the Dovecote Café will still
need to change into trousers and closed-toe shoes for these sessions)
• Have appropriate sun protection, such as a hat and sunscreen

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will communicate any significant changes as soon as possible.

Please let us know if your child/young person will be attending tomorrow and if they are attending who will be collecting them at 12.30pm. Please do this via email to [email protected]

Thank you, as always, for your understanding, flexibility and continued support during this period of exceptionally hot weather.

Head of Education
