Dear Students, Parents and Carers,
As temperatures rise, we would like to remind everyone of the importance of staying safe around water. While open water may look appealing, it remains dangerously cold and can cause cold water shock, leading to breathing difficulties, panic and an increased risk of drowning. Tragically, the risk of water-related incidents rises during hot periods, particularly among children and young people. We encourage students and families to have open conversations about making safe, informed decisions, especially when spending time with friends outdoors.
Key safety reminders:
- Only enter water in supervised, designated areas
- Avoid swimming alone or after consuming alcohol
- Be aware of cold water shock – it affects strong swimmers too
- Look out for friends and do not take risks
